Here in Switzerland some things (a lot actually) are legally binding. There a lots of laws, rules and obligations and when you own a house (well the bank does but that’s another matter) there a whole load of things that you have to do and each and every one of them leads you to dip into your wallet to cover the expenses.
One of these is the biannual visit of the Official Chimney Sweep and this also means you have no choice of course. We have underfloor central heating and no open fireplace otherwise the visit is annual.
So two years ago our heating broke just after the visit and we joked that it was probably the fault of the Sweep.
This year, a few days after the visit, the chimney started leaking and as it has rained on and off these past few weeks I had to learn to open the piping between the chnimney and the boiler and evacuate the surplus water. We have already received the bill so we are keeping it on hold while awaiting a second visit from the Sweep.
I thought Chimney Sweeps brought luck.

Thats an interesting fact. I like hearing about how the rest of the world lives and that is why, when going on holiday to London, I enjoy staying with friends rather than staying in a hotel. You learn much about the basic living of people in other parts of the world.
London is so close to Geneva too! Just an hour’s cheap flight away in fact!
Hi
Thanks for enquiring about my welfare. I’m fine. I’ve had some trouble with my computer. I have the usual protection - antivirus etc. but my computer kept sticking, couldn’t close programs etc. I got fed with it and left the thing off for a while. Consequently have lost touch with the blog thing.
However, I used an old computer today to catch up with email etc. Hope to be back soon.
Thanks again for your comments.
