On being envious

Written by wyn on March 10, 2004 – 10:11 am

I said I had a tale to tell, so here it is, as promised.

Yesterday I was chatting via MSN with a very good friend in Canada who works in software support. In the course of our very agreable –as always– conversation, I mentioned that the sun was shining in Geneva as it was the end of the morning, and he said that the sun was just rising where he was and that he could see it from his office.

He then asked me if I wanted him to take a photo or two from his office window and I said: “Sure!” So he did.

I still can’t get over the shock of discovering the view he gets every day. I’m downright jealous let me tell you. All he said was : ” Wait until the Long Boats come in”.

Flabbergasted is a nice expressive English word that comes to mind, don’t you think?

I’m am the author of the pictures posted. The image on the left is of course a sunrise. The ship at the bottom center of the image is of the CSS Acadia, http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mma/atoz/acadia.html

The image on the right is almost the same shot, only on a VERY cold day. So cold in fact that the harbour waters produced what is called “sea smoke”

Thanks! I haven’t figured out how to make one comment per line yet though. It splits into two (even three if I leave “on” between the commenter and the comment itself). Sighs.

I don’t have a great view from my office but our office block is on the waterfront and a walk around the corner will enable me to see yachts bobbing in the marina. I have photographs somewhere in my archived posts.
